A busy couple of weeks

Posted 30/10/2013

We've had a busy couple of weeks at NERR getting out and about on a fundraising drive

Pets At Home, a national chain of pet stores in the UK, have a mixed reputation when it comes to their selling reptiles, equipment and associated sundries. It seems that some stores are great, others less so, but reptiles are a new arena for them, so I'd expect best practice will spread as time goes by.
Pets as Home as a chain support local animal rescue charities, and one national one, Support Adoption For Pets who provide a directory of animal rescue centres, and rehome via the Pets At Home stores. Their support for local rescues comes from each "adopting" an organisation in their area. We're lucky enough to have been adopted by one, and another have shared their adoption between us and Cats Protection. These arrangements have allowed us to go to the stores and raise money, show some of our animals, and spread awareness of reptiles as pets and of the work we do. So far in two visits to each store we've raised almost a thousand pounds, and, more importantly, we've generated leads which have seen more than a dozen animals rehomed. We're immensely grateful to everyone who has donated items for the tombolas which have become a mainstay of our fundraising days.

Speaking of fundraising, 15 year old Hannah Nicholas from Wensley in North Yorkshire has raised another £140 for us with a coffee morning in the village. She raised a similar amount for us last year.
